Two interactive Pop Up Walls were set up for two weeks at the Burrows Street entrances of 7 Mallory Street, presenting the “Past Wall” and “Future Wall” respectively with the following objectives: Past Wall - To raise Wan Chai residents’ awareness of the community resources available in the neighbourhood; and Future Wall - to act as an open a platform for voicing opinions about potential themes and use of space at 7 Mallory Street.
The Past Wall showcased a Wan Chai Street Culture Map curated based on stories gathered from the previous engagement activities.
From streets and parks to old stores and new businesses, various types of places were highlighted community assets in Wan Chai from a street level perspective, the map shaped several clusters of signature - streets of Wan Chai that connect different community groups and possess key community assets, such as 7 Mallory Street, Stone Nullah Lane, Tai Yuen Street, Spring Garden Lane, Lee Tung Street and Star Street.
The Future Wall aimed to collect opinions of the Wan Chai community on creative use of space in 7 Mallory Street to promote local culture.
Participants were invited to place a card printed with a local cultural item into the pocket representing their desired format to complete the ideation exercise.
A total of 47 items of local culture and 41 formats were provided for them to create their ideal “crossover”.
